Introducing Stiaan

Finally our payments from the cellar are coming through, so - finally - we can afford some part-time help on the farm. Stiaan has been managing farms in the valley for years and, having proved himself a very cool customer in the heat of harvest, we hired him to help us all year round! So, no more lugging chemicals around for me... I've got a helper to do all my dirty work now : )

Right now he's out there with his team lifting up the wires on some of the blocks. As you can see from the photo, the Shiraz is shooting up fast so we need to rein it in quickly before the wind comes through and breaks them off. Our next task will be to 'tip' (take off the very top part of the shoot) to stop them growing too high.

In the meantime, I've still got to go and buy those snake hooks...
